A celebration of Spanish cuisine at the Spanish Embassy

In celebration of Tasting Spain, a collective of Spanish gastronomic attractions, food and travel industry professionals joined together last week to enjoy an evening of Spanish wine and cuisine at the Spanish Embassy by Michelin star chef Francis Paniego from Portal de Echaurren restaurant in Logroño.

The event brought a slice of Spain to London and included an elaborate tasting menu with cold appetizers such as cheeses, Spanish caviar, gazpacho, squid and croquetas, warm appetizers including morcilla (blood sausage), king prawn brocheta and artichokes with Spanish cured ham as well as an elaborate selection of meats, fish and desserts.

Wines included Marqués de Riscal Rueda Verdejo and Marqués de Riscal Rioja Reserva as well as a full range of sherries such as Manzanilla, Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso, Cream and Pedro Ximenez.

In recent years the presence of high quality Spanish food products and wines in the UK market has soared, helped both by the tourist industry and by the growing number of high caliber restaurants serving Spanish cuisine.

As for wines, in the last year, Spain has risen to fourth position in the ranking of the top supplier countries to the UK whilst sales have grown on a yearly basis by 13% in volume and 12% in value. Apart from the well-known red wines, the customer is now also enjoying a growing number of white and rosé wines.
