EL CELLER DE CAN ROCA NAMED WORLD'S BEST RESTAURANT

A Spanish Restaurant once again has been named the top eatery on the planet according to the prestigious ‘Restaurant’ magazine and their “World’s 50 best restaurants” awards. El Celler de Can Roca in Girona has regained the crown it temporarily lost last year. Out of the 13 editions of these awards a Spanish restaurant has come out on top on 7 occasions.

Overall it was a good night for Spain; 5 restaurants making it into the top 20; the aforementioned El Celler de Can Roca at number 1, Mugaritz in 6th, Asador Etxebarri 13th, Arzak 17th, and Azurmendi in 19th.

The award for highest climber goes to Asador Etxeberri, in the area of Atxondo, near Bilbao in the Basque country, moving up 21 places from last year to 13th.

It was a great night too for the younger of the Adriá brothers as Albert Adriá takes over from Jordi Roca as the World’s best Pastry Chef. Albert Adría’s restaurant in Barcelona, Tickets, is a new entry on the list at 42.

Year after year, Spanish cuisine and Spanish restaurants are considered to be amongst the best in the World. The use of fresh seasonal and local ingredients combined with the imagination, artistry, and a touch of magic by Spanish Chefs make a recipe for success and a truly wonderful gastronomic experience in many places around Spain.
