Gran Canaria to welcome Angry Birds Activity Park

Gran Canaria has announced the exciting news that by the end of this year, Puerto Rico, located in the south-west corner of the island could have a brand new tourist attraction.

Three Finnish companies plan to build the Angry Birds theme park in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria, which is said to assume an investment of approximately two million euros. The theme park is a result of the joint venture of Holiday Club Resorts, Rovio Entertainment and Lappset Group, and will be the sixth in the world of its kind.

The Angry Birds game, created by Finnish computer game developer Rovio Entertainment, took the world by storm when it was released in 2009, and since then, it has only grown in popularity. The three companies have already had successes with their other activity parks in Finland, but this will be their first international joint project.

The Angry Birds Land adventure park in Tampere, Finland features rides, an adventure course, an Angry Birds themed shop and amusement arcade games and has been a huge international hit. Designed for both tourists and the island's residents, the new theme park in Gran Canaria hopes to attract more than 100,000 visitors a year, contributing to the modernisation of this important tourist area.

The town of Mogán has already given permission for the building to go ahead, and the activity centre is expected to be open to the public as soon as October 2013. Watch this space!
