New luxury boutique hotel to open in Menorca

Summary

May 2013 sees the opening of a new luxury boutique offering on the island of Menorca.  Torralbenc has an impeccable pedigree; it is the sister hotel to Mallorca’s beautiful  Cap Rocat, which was opened by hotelier Pablo Carrington in 2010, to great acclaim.

Like Cap Rocat, Torralbenc will bring the simple understated contemporary luxury of its sister hotel across the Balearics, to Menorca.   Opening in May 2013, Torralbenc is set deep in peaceful countryside, with centuries-old farm buildings at its heart.  The hotel is surrounded by farmland and vineyards, which will soon produce Menorca’s finest red wine.

Torralbenc is the seventh hotel in the Marugal portfolio, which specialises in independent boutique hotels, with properties in Mallorca, San Sebastian,  Getaria and Rioja in Spain, as well as Paris.

Smaller than Mallorca, Menorca remains delightfully low key.  With a recently completed coastal path, one of the world’s great natural harbours and a story that goes back in prehistory to 1500BC, the entire island is also classified a biosphere reserve by UNESCO for its striking flora and fauna.

Just a cycle ride away from the south-west coast of the island, Torralbenc commands views of the Mediterranean from its collection of carefully restored, white-washed buildings.  The integrity of the architecture and the natural environment has been respected by designer-architect Antonio Esteva, known for his work on private properties across the Balearics and deftly combining tradition with contemporary.

Inside, he has created deeply comfortable, serene, contemporary interiors.  Twenty-five rooms and two cottages provide roomy, peaceful and relaxed accommodation, characterised by the gentle textures of limestone, wood and natural fabrics.

Restaurant Sa Taula de Torralbenc is set in a former harvest store-house, imbued with the legacy of farming life.  Staying true to Menorca’s gastronomic roots and the flavours of the Mediterranean, family recipes are created with local, seasonal produce.

Guests can relax by the salt-water pool, or borrow bicycles to cycle to the coast at their own pace.   Imbued with the simple charms of island life, Torralbenc brings understated luxury and a true sense of escape to this rural corner of Menorca.

Opening rates start from 165€ per room per night for the Albenc Room up to 220€ per room per night for a Sea View Room.  The hotel will be open from May 2013  - October 2013 and from April - October in subsequent years.

“Torralbenc is set in 70 acres of private land, with just 27 rooms - so there is plenty of space for every guest. We didn’t really have to import anything to create the hotel, everything was here: the landscape, the produce, the views and the peace and quiet – all just a short distance from some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean.”
Pablo Carrington, Managing Director of Marugal
