Sherry to become core focus for cultural, tourism and festival agenda in Jerez

Jerez de la Frontera in Andalucia has been chosen as the 2014 European Wine City and is gearing up for a host of events to add to its already bursting calendar of colourful annual festivals and gastronomy events.

Highlights to look forward to include the Vinoble Exhibition of Noble Wines, the Grape Harvest Festivals, World Sherry Week, 365 Days of Wine Tourism Experiences in Jerez, the Recevin Event for Young Winemakers and the European Wine City Gala.

The region has become a staple in the world of wine, exporting 60 million bottles every year. The region of Jerez is home to some of the most famous Sherry wineries in the world, which are open to tourists and locals to explore and learn about the production of this delicious wine.

Wine can be enjoyed in numerous ways throughout the region, from learning about the production in the wineries to following the Wine and Brandy Route in the Marco de Jerez Region, there's no excuse for not celebrating the local produce.

As well as celebrating this esteemed title, the province will also be commemorating 750 years under the crown of Castile and hosting the start of world renowned cycling race, Vuelta a EspaƱa, in August.
