With London Marathon taking place this weekend, it’s time to brush off the cobwebs and start planning for a new challenge. For those who didn’t make the final cut for London or are keen for a more unique challenge, the Lanzarote Wine Run offers the chance to enjoy a 21km race passing through the island’s main area of wine production whilst sampling some of Lanzarote’s best wines on route.

The only race worldwide where participants can win their weight in wine, the Lanzarote Wine Run takes place on 23rd June in La Geria, known for its many wineries and varied landscapes.

Lanzarote is best known for the quality of its Malvasia wines, produced from vines that thrive in the moisture of the black volcanic gravel which blankets much of the island.

Whist many people flock to Lanzarote to sample the wine and the cuisine, Lanzarote has long been known as a destination for sports lovers and a hot training ground for triathletes thanks to its year round sub-tropical climate and sophisticated sports infrastructure.

The Lanzarote Wine Run is just one of the sporting events that takes place on the island, which offers an action packed calendar of sporting events including the Lanzarote Ironman on 18th May and Lanzarote International Marathon on 8th December.
