Enlightenment by PROJEKTIL

‘Enlightenment’, an immersive audiovisual experience by the artistic collective PROJEKTIL is Currently being showcased at the Comunidad Evangélica de Habla Alemana – Friedenskirche Church until 27th April 2025. The show reinterprets Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons through stunning visuals and cutting-edge projection technology. The church's architecture is transformed into a dynamic canvas of light, colour, and imagery, guiding audiences through a 360-degree journey of nature’s cycles. This unique fusion of music has performances running daily from from 6pm-8pm.

Centro Danza Matadero

In February 2025, the Centro Danza Matadero opened in Madrid's Matadero complex, providing a new home for dance. This new venue will host a variety of dance forms, including urban, classical, flamenco, and contemporary. Under the direction of María Pagés the centre will feature 124 performances across 26 shows in its inaugural season, with over 600 artists participating. The centre’s newly renovated facilities, including a main hall with 634 seats, aim to establish CDM as a major European dance hub. The centre will host performances, residencies, co-productions, and educational initiatives, all designed to elevate dance and enrich Madrid’s cultural landscape, with members of the public able to purchase tickets to watch.

Palacio del Capricho Museum

Also set to open in 2025 is the Palacio del Capricho Museum, located in Madrid’s El Capricho Park. The palace is undergoing a major restoration, with an estimated investment of €6.9 million. Once completed, the museum will celebrate the legacy of Josefa Pimentel Téllez-Girón, the IX Duchess of Osuna, who commissioned the palace in the 18th century. The museum will offer visitors insights into the cultural contributions of the Osuna family, while the surrounding park, famous for its blend of French, English, and Italian artistic influences, provides a peaceful environment for exploration. The Palacio del Capricho Museum is expected to open in the second half of 2025 although an exact date has not yet been set.

New Banksy Museum

The new Banksy Museum, which opened its doors on 2nd January features more than 170 replicas of iconic works by the elusive street artist Banksy, offering a tribute to his influential career. The museum not only showcases the artist's work but also aims to provoke thought and discussion around contemporary urban art. It serves as an open platform for reflection on the role of street art in modern society, allowing visitors to engage with the themes of social activism, anonymity, and the intersection of art and politics that are central to Banksy’s work.

Originally established with a series of small booths selling books for just 15 cents, the fair has evolved while maintaining its essence. Today, around 30 wooden stalls continue to be run by booksellers, many of whom are the children and grandchildren of the original founders. These dedicated vendors, now part of the Soy de la Cuesta Association, work to keep the tradition alive by organising cultural activities throughout the year.

Cuesta de Moyano, which connects Paseo del Prado near Atocha Station to Buen Retiro Park, is not just a marketplace but also a historic and cultural landmark. Statues of the Spanish writer Pío Baroja and politician Claudio Moyano stand at each end, honouring figures who played significant roles in Spain’s literary and intellectual history.

As the fair reaches its 100-year anniversary, it remains a treasured institution in Madrid, celebrating a century of literary passion and the enduring power of books.

‘Paysage Miró’ at Fundación Miró Mallorca

This summer, the Fundación Miró Mallorca - based where Joan Miró lived from 1956 up until his death in 1983 - will host the "Paysage Miró" exhibition as part of an ambitious collaborative project. The exhibition, focusing on the importance of chance encounters and fortuitous coincidences in Joan Miró’s work, will be presented simultaneously at the Fundació Miró Mallorca, the Lonja de Palma, the Es Baluard Museum, and the Casal Solleric. This jointly curated exhibition will feature works from the Fundació’s collection alongside renowned pieces from institutions such as the Reina Sofia Museum, the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, and the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA). The exhibition will explore how influences from nature, poetry and music enriched his art, showcasing key pieces not only by Miró but also from his contemporaries and inspirations.

The Espai Cor opens with debut exhibition ‘Ple al buit’ by Mallorcan sculptor Joan Cortés

Palma saw the Espai Cor open its doors for the first time on 15 January 2025. The new cultural space has been inaugurated with an exhibition by Mallorcan sculptor Joan Cortés, titled ‘Ple al buit’, which will remain open to the public until 13 April 2025. Cortés, originally from Pollença and with a career spanning over four decades, is considered one of the most prominent artists in the Balearic Islands. The inaugural exhibition at Espai Cor brings together sculptures and prints from Cortés’ four-decade career. ‘Ple al buit’ marks the beginning of cultural activity in the new venue, designed to become an artistic meeting point in the city.

Hauser & Wirth Menorca to Reopen its Doors on Isla del Rey in Spring 2025

Hauser & Wirth Menorca is a renowned gallery combining art, education and conservation on the natural setting of Isla del Rey, an island in Mahon harbour. The museum is set to reopen its doors in Spring 2025 following its most successful season yet from May to October 2024, during which it welcomed over 76,000 visitors. Now with its fifth season looming large, the art centre is hoping to go one step further with a programme packed with contemporary art, events and hands-on educational workshops for children and adults alike. The venue comprises eight galleries housed in a repurposed 18^th-century naval hospital, complete with an outdoor sculpture trail featuring works by artists such as Louise Bourgeois and Joan Miró, a garden designed by Piet Oudolf, and an on-site Cantina restaurant serving seasonal and local produce.

Es Baluard Announces Four New Exhibitions for 2025

Es Baluard Contemporary Art Museum, renowned for its innovative collection of thought-provoking art in the heart of Palma, is set to open four exciting new exhibitions in 2025. Eugenio Dittborn: Airmail Paintings (31 January – 15 June) features the Chilean artist’s powerful works that blend painting and collage on materials sent via airmail, reflecting themes of exile and memory. José Fiol: The Green Fog (31 January – 4 May) explores the natural world through rich, abstracted green tones, evoking mystery and transformation in the landscape. Nachleben: Painting as Conceptual Art (31 January – 6 July) challenges traditional notions of painting by fusing conceptual art with symbolic imagery and materiality, inviting viewers to engage with the evolving nature of the medium.
