Costa Verde Express showcases the very best of Green Spain

The Costa Verde Express, one of Spain’s premier luxury tourist trains, is offering travellers an exclusive journey through the landscapes, culture and heritage of northern Spain, with stops in the autonomous community of Cantabria as part of its six-day itinerary between Bilbao and Santiago de Compostela.

Operating across the four regions that make up Green Spain (España Verde) — the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia — the luxury hotel-train experience combines scenic rail travel with high-quality accommodation, gastronomy and curated cultural excursions.

Having kickstarted in May, the Costa Verde Express operates with a full-board service and features recently renovated suites, providing guests with five nights of onboard accommodation. Throughout the journey, passengers discover historic cities, charming coastal towns and outstanding natural landscapes through a programme of guided visits and experiences designed to highlight the region’s unique identity.

In Cantabria, the train makes stops in the regional capital, Santander, and includes an excursion to Santillana del Mar, one of the area’s most iconic medieval towns. These destinations showcase the diversity of Cantabria, from its elegant coastal setting and cultural attractions to its historic architecture and traditional character.

The Costa Verde Express forms part of Renfe’s portfolio of luxury tourist train experiences, which are designed around slow, experiential travel and the revival of the golden age of rail journeys.
