EMBAJADORES, MADRID VOTED ‘COOLEST NEIGHBOURHOOD IN THE WORLD’

The neighbourhood or ‘barrio’ Embajadores in Madrid has been voted at the top of Time Out Magazine’s 50 coolest neighbourhoods in the world. This was in celebration of Time Out’s 50th anniversary and was ranked via a ‘City Life Index’ survey looking for areas with buzz, cool new venues, affordability, places to stay, and a feeling of being “on the up,” according to the publication.

Embajadores, located south of Puerta del Sol in central Madrid, has been attracting tourists, new residents and visitors for some time now. The Madrilenian area was awarded the title on accounts of its “bustling cultural life” that factors in its exciting nightlife, growing gastro scene and street art. Tabacalera and La Casa Encendida have been touted as two cultural hubs in the barrio and act as a place where people from near and far bring the multiculturalism of Madrid to life. Plaza Tirso de Molina, slightly more to the north, is full of florists by day but becomes a frequented night spot where hot-topic clubs such as Medias Puri reside.

The title of ‘coolest neighbourhood in the world’ should not be understated especially when considering the stiff competition that Embajadores faced. Places like Manhattan in New York, Notting Hill in London or even closer to home, Salamanca in Madrid frequently role off the tongue. The recent buzz in the capital goes to show the progress that Spain is making as a visitor destination and as a country of residence despite its already well esteemed status.
