THE GUGGENHEIM BILBAO UNVEILS NEW EXHIBITION: “VAN GOGH TO PICASSO: THE THANNHAUSER LEGACY”

On 21st September, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao unveils its new exhibition titled “Van Gogh to Picasso: The Thannhauser Legacy.” The exhibit will feature nearly fifty pieces by Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and early modern masters and marks the first time that the majority of these works have been displayed outside of New York.

The collection was originally gifted by Justin K. Thannhauser, son of Modern Galerie Munich founder Heinrich Thannhauser, to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in 1965 on accounts of the Foundation’s commitment to promoting artistic innovation. It has long since been exhibited at the Guggenheim New York and is comprised of artists such as Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet and many more of a similar calibre.

“Van Gogh to Picasso: The Thannhauser Legacy” will run from 21st September 2018 until 24th March 2019 and will feature avant-gardist works that sought to liberate art from academic vices through the exploration of nature and the changing city scape. The exhibition will include paintings, sculptures, works on paper and even archival material ranging from gallery stick books to historical photographs.

Visitors to Bilbao in Spain’s alluring Basque Country should not squander the opportunity to see the exhibit first hand in this once-in-a-blue-moon opportunity.
