Corralejo crowned #1 emerging destination in Europe by TripAdvisor

TripAdvisor, the largest travel website in the world, has announced the winners of the Traveller’s Choice Emerging Destinations awards and we’re delighted to see Spain leading the ranking of the “Top 10 emerging destinations in Europe”. The pretty town of Corralejo on Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands was crowned number one, beating the Portuguese city of Porto, Krakow in Poland, Göreme in Turkey and Helsinki in Finland to the top spot.

The Traveller’s Choice Emerging Destinations awards recognises 54 destinations worldwide that have received the largest amount of positive feedback from travellers year on year and are seen to be growing in popularity.

Moisés Jorge Naranjo, managing director of the Fuerteventura Tourism Board, commented ‘It’s a privilege that one of the most important websites for tourist feedback, TripAdvisor, has recognised an area like Corralejo as a destination on the rise. It’s a key destination for us, being a village that maintains a strong fishing heritage but which has adapted fantastically to the growing demand from tourism over the last few years.’

Corralejo boasts beautiful beaches and seven miles of fine sand, as well as strong winds, making it a hotspot for kite surfers and windsurfers. The Corralejo Nature Reserve is a protected sand dune field, only broken by the mountains of los Apartaderos and Roja. The reserve is home to a number of endemic species and makes a great day trip for nature lovers.
