GLOBAL ART ICON, OKUDA SAN MIGUEL, TRANSFORMS IBIZA’S WEST END WITH DAZZLING STREET ART
In a bold move to revitalise the destination, the Sant Antoni de Portmany City Council in Ibiza has commissioned Okuda San Miguel, one of Spain’s most internationally acclaimed artists, to transform the West End of Ibiza with a signature technicolour masterpiece – and the results are stunning.
Funded by EU Next Generation programme, the project brings Okuda’s unmistakable style—bursting with vibrant geometric shapes and symbolic figures—to the heart of San Antonio breathing new life into the West End and reimagining the historic centre with colour, creativity, and culture.
Local officials, including Mayor of San Antonio, Marcos Serra and Balearic Islands Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Jaume Bauzà, joined residents and the artist for the inauguration. Attendees walked the newly painted Santa Agnès street in the West End to admire the full scope of the installation after officials pulled back the curtain at the street entrance to unveil an explosion of geometric patterns and vibrant colours true to Okuda’s signature style.
Mayor Marcos Serra expressed his strong support for the project, stating: “This artistic intervention marks a decisive step in the urban regeneration and cultural transformation of Sant Antoni. Through art, we’re not only renewing the urban space but also projecting a modern, inclusive, and creative image of our municipality to the world.” He added, “Sant Antoni aspires to become a cultural benchmark, and this work clearly demonstrates how culture can be a driving force for social transformation and tourism revitalisation.”
Serra also highlighted that this initiative forms part of a wider strategic plan led by the City Hall to revitalise and enhance the area through a range of investments, including the creation of a boulevard on Vara de Rey Street, the development of a cultural hub, comprehensive street renovations, and financial support for business transformation and façade restoration. “The goal,” he concluded, “is to turn this space into a more welcoming area that encourages coexistence between residents and tourists and contributes to the quality improvement we seek for Sant Antoni.”
