OVIEDO NAMED BY ABTA AS A DESTINATION TO WATCH 2025

Oviedo has been named one of ABTA's Destinations to Watch 2025. A hidden gem located in Northern Spain, Oviedo is known for its rich history and stunning landscapes. 

Some of the highlights of the city include the UNESCO-listed pre-Romanesque churches, the charming Cimadevilla neighbourhood. The city’s location within Asturias also grants travellers easy access to the Picos de Europa National Park as well as coastal villages like Cudillero and Llanes. 

Asturias' renowned food scene, with dishes like the hearty fabada bean stew and the famous carne gobernada (beef braised in white wine), earned Oviedo the title as Capital of Gastronomy in 2024.

As ABTA’s new survey reveals, travellers are increasingly seeking destinations that offer cultural immersion, adventure, and authentic local experiences. The survey also reveals that 45% of travellers are keen to explore new countries, and 48% are looking to visit cities or resorts they haven’t been to before. With growing interest in off-the-beaten-path locations, Oviedo’s charm and accessibility make it a must-visit for 2025.
