Room Mate Hotels to open new property in Barcelona
Room Mate Hotels, the Spanish design hotel chain founded and chaired by Kike Sarasola, continues its national and international expansion with the opening of a funky new property in Barcelona. The hotel chain already has two hotels in the city (Room Mate Pau and Room Mate Emma), and the third hotel will open at the end of this year.
The new hotel will be situated in Quadrant d’Or, Barcelona, next to the Paseo de Gracia, one of the buzziest areas in the city. The building was built in the early 20th century and its classic façade is still intact. Initially the building was home to the University of Chicago and in 2012 it held the 20th anniversary of Home Décor, the largest exhibition of interior design, architecture and art in Europe.
Now set to become a luxurious hotel, the 4,000 square metre property will be renovated at a cost of five million euros to house 81 rooms over seven floors. The new hotel will also feature a fabulous terrace complete with swimming pool, which is already set to become one of Barcelona's hottest new hangouts.
Lorenzo Castillo has been named as the interior designer of the new property. Castillo is well-known on the interior design scene, having worked on high profile projects including the decoration of Madrid's Plaza Cibeles, Neptuno and Paseo del Prado for the wedding of the Prince Felipe. He is also responsible for the unique and uber modern designs of the Room Mate Hotels in Madrid, Malaga, Granada and Florence.
