José Manuel de Juan, Director of the Spanish Tourist Office, London:

“Spain is in mourning as we think of those passengers who have lost their lives, the injured and all their loved ones, as a result of the high speed rail collision that took place on the morning of 28 October in the central province of Toledo.

This rail crash between two high-speed trains outside Toledo on the Madrid to Seville line, is a tragedy for our country, with 69 passengers confirmed dead and many more injured amongst the 544 passengers.

We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident and we share our heartfelt condolences to all those impacted. We also express our solidarity with the people of Spain during this period of grief.

A full investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances and reasons for it.”
