SUMMER IN SPAIN FOR THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY

Spain is proud to be one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly communities in the world, ranked seven out of 203 countries on the LGBTQ+ Travel Safety Index and seven out of 197 countries of the LGBT Equality Index. Not only are there hundreds of Pride events that take place across Spain during Pride Month, such as the incredibly popular Ibiza Pride, but there are also major LGTBQ+ celebrations and festivals to visit outside of June to continue to celebrate the community.

MADRID PRIDE

The Madrid Pride parade falls on July 01 with the slogan “Embracing family diversity: equality in rights” calling for equality and higher media visibility for LGBTQ+ families. With over two million visitors, Madrid Pride is one of the largest Pride events in Europe and transforms the city into a celebration of diversity. Although there are events across Madrid, most activities are held in the neighbourhood of Chueca, a lively area which is popular with the LGBTQ+ community throughout the year. Learn more here

BARCELONA PRIDE

Barcelona Pride takes place from July 03 to July 16, with the main parade taking place on July 15. With over 250,000 annual attendees, Barcelona Pride is one of the most popular LGBTQ+ events in the Mediterranean. This year’s theme is LGBTQ+ seniors, to celebrate and thank older members of the community for all that they have done to pave the way for future generations. It will focus on the inclusion of people of all ages in the fight for equality. Learn more here

TORREMOLINOS WONDER GAY FESTIVAL

Torremolinos, on the Costa del Sol, holds the Wonder Gay Festival at the end of the July, with festivities predominantly falling on July 28 to July 31. Despite being a small town with a permanent population of under 4,000, the coastal town of Torremolinos is an international gay hotspot, with LGBTQ+ travellers attracted year-round. The town has multiple events throughout the year, such as Torremolinos Gay Pride at the end of May. The Wonder Gay Festival is specifically marketed at young queer people and allies looking to party to internationally renowned DJs over a series of all-night festivals. Learn more here

MALLORCA INTERNATIONAL LESBIAN FESTIVAL

Mallorca’s ELLA International Lesbian Festival takes place from August 25 to September 02. The festival, now in its 8th edition, is a fantastic opportunity to meet queer women, non-binary people, and allies from all over the world. There are an enormous range of activities to enjoy over the seven days, from expositions of international artists and DJ sets to conferences with respected speakers and workshops to world-class gastronomy.
